| Getting started - In 1997, the Tournament Director had a dream about
hosting an annual international softball tournament for minor girls in the Waterloo Region. To help fulfill
the dream he enlisted the support of friends, potential sponsors and the business community. From
there the Jamboree evolved and commenced in 1998 with 22 teams participating.
The present day Committee regularly share ideas and information with Sophie Bedard and her Montreal Challenge committee as both continue to put some fun and fellowship back into the competitive aspect of the sport.
Our 8th Annual Jamboree in 2005 had 40 teams participating and that will probably be our maximum limit for a while. Through the years we've had the pleasure of hosting various teams from Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas and Virginia as well as Quebec and Ontario teams. We charge an admission fee for spectators to assist in meeting our operating costs. If a profit occurs much of it is returned to the community through donations. Various benefactors include the PWSA scholarship fund and Special Olympic softball program. The Fast Pitch Jamboree is a project of Civitan Sports - Waterloo Region and is an invitational tournament designed to promote girls softball at the minor age level. |
